Can you guess who's artwork Is On Northwind Arts Center's main webpage? Yup it's mine! (Okay, I kind of gave the surprise away).  It's a big honor to have my artwork displayed along with  Nancy Loorem Adams artwork to advertise the opening of the Fiber Fusion show at Northwinds!  Thank you Northwind Arts Center for selecting an image of my artwork to use on your webpage! The opening reception is on Saturday the 4th, 2017 from 5:30-8:00 pm and coincides with the Port Townsend Art Walk.   Fiber Fusion is the title of the Washington State Surface Design Association Travelling Exhibit and it's really an amazing display of fiber art.  Plus Northwinds has a wonderful facility with lots of other interesting art to see as well.   I'll be attending and hope to see all of you there!!  

Well today was the day - I FINALLY managed to get my bowls labeled (a challenge in and of itself!), protected (thank you bubble wrap), a box cut down to the right size (thank you hubby for the new box sizer!!!), and the box lined with high density foam and loaded with artwork... and shipped. whew.  3 cute little sculptural bowls shouldn't be that much work right?  That's what I thought! THEN I got busy with the actual processes....and always making sure I followed the show's rules and guidelines for shipping (sure hope I did it all correctly!!). The rules seem simple enough.   Must be mailed by x-date (no problem IF you've done all the other steps!) Your name, artwork title, and inventory number must be on all packaging materials (hmmm... lots of packaging materials means lots of labeling!) Tulips Revisited (notice the fine line details?) I am feeling rather good - I managed to finish 2 silk paintings this week (which is pretty good for me because I work full-time and am a mom and wife!).   The first one I finished is another tulip painting.  I am rather pleased with how it turned out.  I used the same base design for it as I did for Stained Glass Tulips Too.  My motivation for that is to show everyone (both online, and in shows) the differences between the traditional Serti method (or painting with resists that prevent dyes from flowing outside of the resist lines), and the Sistek method (a stop-flow method which uses a variety of chemicals to greatly reduce the speed at which dyes flow).   Stained Glass Tulips Too (The dark resist lines make it look like a stained glass piece) As you can see, in Stained Glass Tulips Too, there are big lines outlining all of the major shapes (the lines are left by the resist), and while shading is...

I have found applying for shows to be an interesting situation.  Did you title your piece correctly?  Do Rejected Also rejected the curators think it in some way, correspond to the theme of the show you're applying to?  Do they like your work or not?  If you're rejected... you never find out why.   If you're accepted, you may hear some positive feedback - but you may not. In light of the above questions, I have decided that IF I am going to apply for shows - I simply must be confident in my work.  If I am not, it will show through my art and my art will not get in. And IF I am confident in my work, then it doesn't matter if I do or  don't get in to a show - because my art pleases me and I know that art is extremely subjective.  This is a weird mindset for me!  I tend to be a people-pleaser/worry-wart.  Usually I tend to obsess a bit on the what-if's.   So to accept that my art may not get in to everything I apply for A...
